Picturing a World

Hassam's room

Quickly, another not-really-empty room to compare to Anna Ancher’s. Again, a female figure is hardly more than a part of the color pattern, but, oh, to be reading with her in that room! For this and two more “It’s almost summer” paintings at the It’s About Time blog, click here.

Hassam’s dates (1859–1935) make him an exact contemporary of the real Jeanette Greve (1860–1932). It remains to be seen whether my fictional character is drawn more to Tonalism or American Impressionism in her later career—perhaps a phase of each?
