Picturing a World

Fiacre

Look at what I just came across! I had not seen this image when I wrote Where the Light Falls, but I can’t resist posting it. It belongs with Jeanette and Effie’s first arrival in Paris, when Effie pays the driver of their fiacre a tip or pourboire, but let’s assume that Edward and Eddie rode to the zoo in a fiacre. Click on the image to go to the French website where the image appears along with another old postcard that shows both motorized and horse-drawn omnibuses. I owe a thank-you to my sister, Janet, and her friend, Charlotte, for sending me to the internet in search of pictures for fiacres and the St. Fiacre for whom the vehicles were named.
