Picturing a World

Cousin Effie at last

For years, I’ve been on the lookout for a painting, drawing, or photograph that reminds me of Cousin Effie. She is very vivid in my mind, as are Jeanette’s drawings of her; but no luck—until, finally, up popped this image. Not perfect, but for the first time ever, I reacted, “Oh, that’s like Cousin Effie hunting for a studio for Sonja and Amy!” What about you? Is this like or unlike your idea of Effie? Have you ever stumbled across a picture that reminded you unexpectedly of something you had read or written?

Nilus was new to me, too. I scrolled through the entire It’s About Time post seeing the world of my imagination through the lens of somebody else’s and also being transported to a different country.
